I've reached my breaking point with the visual and media's portrayal of women and teens. Enough, I say, Enough.
Perhaps it's because I just learned my dear friend lost his 20 year old daughter a few weeks ago. This beautiful college sophomore with an eating disorder just couldn't live in this world anymore. Or perhaps it'a because I lost my friend
Maryann this week at only 46, who struggled all her life with her weight and had gastric bypass surgery a few years ago to fix herself.
Our hearts, actions, intentions and voices can no longer be silent. As women who know better, it's time we take a stand and say enough. If you vote with your feet, your messages on blogs and pocketbook, Companies will get the message - Stop it. You know better and you're killing our girls.
Let's ask Oprah to add Victoria's Secret to her most wanted list. Let's demand they pull the current ad campaign benefiting Child Molesters. When did an almost pubescent girl become our new role model for sexuality? I'm sure this lovely girl is barely legal and looks the part of children who are preyed on by degenerate souls. Isn't this the same type of image that was used by Miss America to trap child predators?
We have to stop this downward spiral of messages to our children. Put some clothes on that child and if we have to watch underwear ads at least have the decency to use a woman. Gisella is fat? Stop it, stop it right now.
Let's send a new message to the Victoria Secret Ad guys (please don't let this disgusting ad be the work of a woman) we're clipping your wings. No more shopping, no more gift cards, no more catalog's, no more free endorsements on our websites and blogs. We're turning the channel when your ad runs because we will no longer allow trash to litter our lives, our children's lives and our home. Stop it. Stop it now!
So let's create a new angel campaign for our girls, for Monique and all her too many sister angels who lost their way. Let's change the message they hear (Thank you America, Salma, & ABC for Ugly, Beautiful Betty)
You are beautiful, powerful beyond your wildest dreams, smarter than a 5th grader and perfect, Just The Way You Are. Don't change a hair on your head, be the healthy, vibrant and gorgeous girl that you are right now in this very moment. Let's teach them to love themselves by loving yourself just the way you are.
For Marann and Monica and all girls and women who found it too hard to live in this world, here is my prayer, 'May God hold you in the palm of his hand and fill you and hearts of your loved one with peace that surpasses all human understanding. May your journey be filled laughter and dessert and may the only words we ever say to each other ever again while still on the earthly plane is "God, girl, you look GOOD!"
If you agree, please leave a message and help me figure out how we can change the world together.
All the best,
Maureen
